Who Is Goddess Coyolxauhqui?

 


 

The moon goddess of the Aztecs. Coyolxauhqui, the daughter of Coatlicue, is the one who encouraged her brothers and sisters to murder their mother. 

Her head was put in the sky and created the moon when her brother Huitzilopochtli killed her. She is portrayed with bells on her cheeks, and her name means "golden bells."
