Goddess Tlalteuctli

Tlalteuctli: Aztec goddess of the ground.

Tlalteuctli is the earth's Dark Mother, the fertile soil that both feeds and embraces life.

After she was attacked by fellow deities, pieces of her dismembered body were used to create the world.

To worship Tlalteuctli, the Aztecs buried human hearts in the ground and sprinkled blood on the land.

Goddess Itzpapalotl

Aztec deity of the seasons, Itzpapalotl.

Itzpapalotl is the Dark Mother of Creation and Change, also known as the "Obsidian Knife Butterfly."

Her furious temperament manifests in droughts, storms, and death, and she regulates the seasons of the year and agriculture.

Though she grants humanity relief from misery and anguish, she can only provide this liberation via death.

Itzpapalotl is shown as either a lovely lady or a skeleton with butterfly wings laced with swords.
